You Are A Fool By Liberty Adams

November 19, 2019 - 2019: Operation Parivar

You Are A Fool

Did you know that in the Hindu language, fool means flower? I taught adjectives at Bendal today. It was hard to teach because I was only given plain paper, and crayons along with the generic flashcards and book. One of my groups that I taught had extra time at the end of the lesson, so I told them to draw whatever they wanted. The whole group drew pictures of flowers. The little kids kept saying fool, I didn’t know it meant flower until the translator told me that fool meant flower in the Hindu language.

Green team has the furthest drive to their school. The drive from our hotel to Bendal is about an hour drive up the Himalayan Mountains. In India, instead of driving on the right side of the road, you drive on the opposite side of the road. The steering wheel is on the right side of the car. Cars get super close to each other when passing them on the road, because the roads are small. So you end up being five inches away from the car driving in the opposite direction.

Your heart goes out to all the students in the school, the minute you see them. There are 31 students in Bendal (which is the school team green is teaching at). There used to be 29 but then we got two students today that weren’t there yesterday. There are nine, 5 year olds, and they are adorable! But, they are a huge handful to deal with, especially when you have them after lunch.

The view of the Himalayan Mountains is priceless. Compared to the mountains in Utah, these mountains are humongous. By the time we go to sleep, you are just starting your day. Isn’t that weird. Being 12.5 hours ahead of you, it was hard to get in the groove. Tons of work was put into this program, to get where I am today. It’s crazy to think that I am in India at this very moment, doing what I was preparing for the past 10 months. So many memories have been made,  and will be made. There will always be a special place in my heart of this trip. Operation Parivar has felt more like family as this trip has progressed forward. There isn’t one moment where we aren’t together.

Tomorrow I am team leader in my village, which will be nice so I can see how other people teach their lessons. This trip has so far been amazing! It’s cool to see what all my hard work is going towards to make this experience wonderful!
