“Seek to Make Your Life Long-” Dylan Cooley

May 12, 2018 - 2018 Operation: Tyaggi

For my blog I want this start off with part of the prom by Tecumseh. It says “Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and it’s purpose in the service of your people.” I found this portion of the poem very fitting of my thoughts about the trip so far. Many days in the morning I am able to get up early take in everything that has happened. As I look over the city I think of the people I’ve met so far and how they have changed my life and inspired me to do more.

The first sentence of the quote says that we need to love, perfect and beautify all things in our life. I want to make sure that I am doing everything I can to take advantage of the minimal amount of time I have in this life. Then the second sentence talks about making your life long. I have really felt that this past week while teaching the children. Being able to dedicate our entire day to teach English and enhance the lives of these children has helped me to see there’s more to life than work and money.

The last thing Tecumseh talks about is service. Service has made me so happy and willing to do more. Not only teaching at the school but with painting the school I have felt more alive, more grateful for everything that I have. It is something that I need to always look for and never put. Service to our fellow people is the least we can do.

In the ending part of the poem it says “be not like those who pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way”. I hope that all of us are able to give everything we have every day to help other people and make people feel like they’re something. The world is a cruel and harsh place but the power of one person can change thousands of lives. I know that it seems what we’re doing is so small in comparison with what is happening around us. But through the continuous expeditions by YMAD a huge change can be brought about. I am so grateful for this experience and only has change my life but it has inspired me to continue serving and continue helping people. I hope that I will always live my life where I am not praying for more time.
