Unconditional love — By Collin Mack

May 31, 2019 - 2019: vada ka yuva

Today our YMAD group went through a regular day of teaching. We got up ate breakfast and headed off to our village at around 9:45. Today I was assigned to be the school activity leader. What that means is that I am in charge of supervising and helping all the different teens that are teaching. Then at lunch time it is my job to organize activities for the kids to do and play together as a group and afterwards read a book to them. Today was a hard day to be activity leader. Only because the kids from the older school came to watch and participate in the activities we were doing. They were super kind and interested, but they made our jobs a little more chaotic. In result most of the younger kids had a lot of energy too. During lunchtime we played Red light Green light and Duck Duck Goose. It was loads of fun, and I definitely got my exercise in.

All in all, it was great. The one thing that I took from today was shown to me by the look in every child’s eye. Each student looked at me with kind and unconditional love. They do not know me; they don’t know my struggles or my strengths or anything about me. But they still look at me with love. We don’t speak the same language, we don’t live in similar situations, we don’t go to the same school. But love isn’t held back by language. Every day I have looked into at every kid and smiled because I know that they are happy to be here no matter what is going on in their lives. This is something that each of us can take out of their book; live every day looking at people with unconditional love and smile, because how could smiling hurt?
