Love Is A Universal Language – Katie Llewellyn

June 13, 2019 - 2019: Asha Ki Chamak

I’ve been in India for what feels like no time at all. Yet the small, goofy kids I have been given the opportunity to teach have taught me something I will never forget; love is a universal language. I have seen it time and time again-I see it when Ashmita smiles so wide you can’t see her eyes. I see it when when Kunal runs to me each day to shake my hand and tell me good morning. I see it when Navya eagerly follows me wherever I go. I see it when Karan  holds my hand and whispers Hindi into my ear. I see it when Puja embraces me as if it’s second nature. I see it when the people give so much, yet have so little. I have been truly humbled by the amount of love the people so freely give, even when they can barely pronounce my name.

I will never forget these beautiful people, who have truly shown me to live in the moment and to look for the beauty in life. Kullu will always hold a special place in my heart, and will always be my second home. I have so much love for the people who have so easily brought out the best in me, and have shown me to look for the good in others. I am forever grateful for you India, and will cherish these days forever.

  1. Katie,
This!!! Oh my gosh this, everything about your post! I’m so happy that this experience has been what you have sought after since you first fell in love with the idea of YMAD and told us that for some reason "India calls to you". I am thankful you answered that call and your learning so much about the world around you and your place in it as well as all the possibilities for bringing about positivity and goodness in yourself & those around you. So happy that you are being shown love and mentoring by awesome, unselfish people. These are days you will always remember, cherish every moment spent in the service of the people of India you have grown to love.
    I adore these pictures!!!
    Love, Mom

  2. The pictures!!…. all of them are so beautiful and touching and tell the story of the bonds being created during this experience. I want to print them all out and plaster them all over my house, haha.
I also want to thank all of you for your blog posts so far. They are wonderful and so well written. I look forward every morning to reading them and am inspired to do a little good in my space of the world today, so thank you!

  3. Hey Katie, I love you so much! You are my favorite ( and only) sister, and I’m so glad to see you doing these things and enjoying every moment! It’s been lonely and tough being an only child and I am so excited for when you get home, and don’t forget about the "Presentation" I’ve been putting together for you! With much love, -Matthew P.S. I would’ve put more but mom wouldn’t let me 😭.

  4. Katie!, I am so proud of you and the wonderful work you are doing. I want you to know this is why I have done my 6 years of volunteering in the 2nd grade. It’s the kids, and the love they radiate. I have kids from all over the world, Africa, Mexico, Egypt, and India. They give love very freely. Now that you’ve been bitten by this love of children and service, it will be in your bones for life!

  5. Katie, Wow! You are doing awesome! I can definitely tell from those pictures how happy you are… your super big smile says it all! I see from it that you are experiencing true joy and pure happiness! It’s the kind of joy and happiness that is only found through service to others, serving with the love of Christ. I was going to commend you for finding this in India, but that would be wrong- you’ve known this, and had it all along. It was your strong desire to serve that led you to India. I am so happy and proud of you. I know that it’s impossible to find true happiness in this life in any other way than through serving others. I’m glad you’ve known this from an early age. You will continue to be blessed through your service and will bless so many others. I love you and can’t wait to hear all your stories and see your photos. Love, Dad.

  6. Kate’s, I know I posted a few days ago, but let’s face it- this has been a pretty big separation and with this journey you are on I am thinking of you constantly. Jessica and I were chatting the other day and we both noticed how genuinely HAPPY you look in the photos and how your countenance and spirit seem to radiate the experience you are having with the people and culture of India. I could not be more proud of you or excited to hear all you will have to share with us. This trip is preparing both of us for changes to come as you move on with living your dreams and the direction they will take you. I am so excited that you have felt true joy and connection. This is only the beginning of what you have to offer the world around you. So happy that you have found meaningful purpose in serving others and the love you have felt for God’s children❣️

  7. My Katie- you beautiful girl! What wonderful things you are doing (as I always knew you would). My heart feels such joy seeing you and the love you radiate. I know these dear children will hold you in their hearts forever and they will be in yours. What a wonderful start to your life as an adult. I couldn’t be more proud of you. Rae and I are thinking of you daily and send all our love. Be happy, be safe, be You- you are everything you need. Love and hugs, Gramma

  8. Hey kitty girl, I miss you so much!! You look so happy and I am so happy for you! What you are doing in India is amazing work. Not only are you changing those kids lives but your own. Make sure you are a sponge and you absorb every experience you have there because you may not get the opportunity to do anything like this again. Katie I am so proud of you, you are my best friend and watching you through this blog has shown me how much I look up to you and care for you. I don’t think you understand the influence you have on my life, and for that I am so grateful. I really want you to come home so I can give you a big hug but I know that this is where you need to be right now. I love you so much and I cannot wait to see you. Please enjoy yourself while you are there, these kids need you (Maybe a little more than I need you). I’ll see you soon,
    Xo Jessica 💕🤠
