Whiskey Lullaby – Jono Ebert

Whiskey Lullaby

This trip has gone by so quick! I’m writing this on the last day in Chamba and honestly it feels like it should still be one of the first couple days! The city, the people we’ve met, and most of all, the children, have been so amazing and couldn’t have been any better! Every day in our school, through the coughing on us, pinch marks covering our entire arms, and the continuous biting from the small children, the kids have been great! I guess Trippie Redd was right, Love Scars? Haha but for real, I love these kids! I hope that the difference that we’ve made will push and encourage these kids to get out of the poverty cycle and reach the full potential that they have. Each one the children has taught me the lesson that no matter what you have, or in their case, what ever you don’t have, doesn’t determine the happiness that you can reach. Their smiles on their faces is something that I can and will never forget. Definitely was a difficult day leaving them.

When we left the kids Muskan, a little ten year old girl, continued to kiss my cheek and wave goodbye as we exited the school. One of my favorite boys, named Sekshem, clung to my neck and smiled with his missing teeth. Haha his front four were rotted away which was sad but also one of the funniest things. Sangita, who is the warden at the YMAD girls house and my translator from last year, said goodbye to us today also which was way sad.

Tomorrow we travel to Dharmsala which, for those who don’t worship the wonderful Bhuddist religion, is the city where  the Dalhi Lama lives. Always a lit time. Can’t wait for the last couple days. This reminds me of the song by Styx, The Best of Times haha. Excited to see everyone at home also though! Mia, I don’t think I can bring you home a pet, sorry. Love India!

  1. Jono! It’s so good to hear from you and see your photos. I’m so glad you have had such a fantastic time. I love that you have the opportunity to serve the children and also learn life’s most important lessons. You are right. What you have and don’t have isn’t where happiness comes from. Thank you for NOT finding a pet for Mia! Love you! Can’t wait to see you!❤️
