To find the best fruit, You must try all the fruits — By Eric Hoff

May 30, 2019 - 2019: vada ka yuva

Our wise leader Raj told us a story biased in the Hindu religion, in which a woman offers the “best fruit” to one of the deities, in which he responds with, “To find the best fruit, you must try all the fruits.” While Raj took this and now relates it to dating, it relates in more ways to teaching the children here in Jibhi.

We are teaching children from kindergarten to 5th grade in our schools, and due to the maturity difference between the children, you have to adapt and change your lessons. While teaching, not everything you planned works, and I learned that the hard way. The children will just eat you up if you’re not ready. To relate this back to trying fruit, you will never know what’s the best way to teach your children until you try everything. Follow the leader has been found to work the best. I learned that if you’re not willing to adapt to each class, you will not have a good time.

Moving away from fruit and children, India is such a different experience. It is truly unbelievable. The slums are heartbreaking to see. The amount of trash littered everywhere and people living in garages are some of the most horrifying things you’ll witness. Just taking the drive to the village made me want to give it all to these children, and I hope I can do that.

  1. Hey Eric,
I can’t believe you’re in India! I remember talking to you about India when you were barely 14. Now you’re there!! I am so happy you and your dad are experiencing the beautiful insanity of that magical land. Those kids are so lucky to have you! Soak up every moment and you will come home with no regrets!! Stay awesome!! Chris
