Beautiful Chaos By Toni Van Otten

Beautiful chaos.

The last two days have been the most exciting fun and enlightening time of my life. We traveled for a total time of 52 hours. By the end of it, I wondered why I had decided that was a good idea, but I would do it over again to be here. By the time we got to our hotel that night I was dead tired! I have never slept better. The people here are amazing, from the kids to my group. India is beautiful chaos.  They are such crazy drivers. It is a wonder we have not seen or gotten into an accident. I think it’s because everyone respects and communicates so well. That is something America doesn’t have.

The first day at the school was really awesome. They have the most beautiful outlook situated on the Himalayas.  It was so much fun to get to know the kids and watch as they grew closer to us. I was teaching this group of 5-year olds and this one kid, when I turned around, pulled out his scissors and put his tongue in the middle of them.  I almost had a heart attack. The rest of the day went pretty smooth.  By the time we were leaving, the kids were all over us. I was extremally excited to come back.

Today (2ndday) was even better, if that was even possible. I love these kids more and more every time I see them. With my older kids, after our lesson, when we were drawing pictures, I had this one kid that drew a rocket, stars and astronauts. It was really cute. He gave it to me after. I will hold on to that picture forever.  I had another kid drawing with sharpie when he picked up his paper he looked at the back of it. The sharpie had sunk though. His surprise that it blends though was priceless. I can’t wait for more memories that I get to take with me. India is defiantly one of my favorite places. I’m so grateful for this opportunity.
