First Day in India!

Normally I don’t care for long rides in a car but after two international flights it was such a relief to be able to rest on the large reclinable chairs and sleep without being seated between to absolute strangers.  When we all woke up to the Indian sunlight through the windows I finally got a good look of the country we had all worked for so long to see.  Despite all the time we spent trying to prepare ourselves I really wasn’t prepared for the differences.  Even the air was so different from how it is in the US when we first left the airport in Delhi I caught bout five distinct smells that hung in the humid air of India some of those scents were pleasant while others were downright fowl.  That’s not the only difference we have found we’ve had to change out of our American behavior and adjust to India we need to be conscious of things that in America we take for granted like clean water and bathroom luxuries (toilet paper).  Even the driving is completely different then the states.  The bus for the most part was extremely relaxing,… except for when I sat in the front (I had to take something for anxiety )while watching the traffic which was absolutely wild, I’m not sure how best to describe the roads in India other then the road lanes are an exception at best.  The money here is pretty different as well we went to subway for breakfast and I purchased a 6 inch tandoori chicken sub (it was divine ) and it only cost about 240 rupees which is about $2.50 in US dollars.  It was the greatest subway experience in my whole life and one of many delicious meals I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in India so far.  We ate a meal at a restaurant about to hours from our destination we ate until we were full and we all promptly passed out on the bus (which as I mentioned prior was extremely comfortable) and two hours after we made it to Kullu after over 24 hours of travel. The hotel is very nice and so are the people who greeted us upon our arrival with immense kindness and a gift of a colorful Indian hat.  Tonight right after yet another delicious meal we got to work preparing to do the things that well really make this an impactful trip for everyone involved.  I’m grateful for the opportunity we have here and I am excited to see how we make the most out of it tomorrow.

  1. Glad to hear your meals are good. Not always the case I’ve heard. Keep up the good work!
