Sleeping babita

  • Had a dance party in our room and I think I got the biggest compliment of my life. It went something like “people would probably assume you’re like a sleeping beauty or Cinderella but I think your inner self is really more like moana” because I definitely secretly want to be Polynesian
  • woke up at 5:00am to one of my lovely roommates snoring viciously I did my best to roll her over and failed. So I laughed instead and walked around my room.
  • Ate curry eggs, curry potatoes, and nan. It was way good. Then we snagged some candy from the stash in Allison and Ashley’s room.
  • We proceeded to our drive. I’ll paint the best picture I can of this experience. Please imagine a small, bendy, one way road. One bus charges up the mountain, one charges down. Facing off about 2 feet apart. Trying to judge who will reverse first as a motorcycle squeezes its way between, impatient and ready to get on his way. Finally the bus coming up the mountain reverses. it’s back wheels end two inches from the edge of a cliff overlooking the Himalayan mountains. Causing its very white inhabitants to gasp in fear. The busses then pass each other at full speed, close enough that if you had a hand out the window you would not end with that hand. Oh and around here, you don’t stop for people as fast as you stop for cows. And you can feel free to go on both sides of the road.
  • Next comes the short walk to our small school. With only 19 students. Some of Divanshi walks out to join us on the way to school. Then sonakshi joins us. She is the sweetest most cuddly little girl. She wants all of our attention all of the time.
  • Teaching can be somewhat exhausting. But the kids make me smile so hard my cheeks hurt. I ask how they are and they say “I’m pine tank you.” It melts my heart. Today the oldest three boys taught me some words and I told them what they were in English. They took turns laughing at the way I said it. Until I got it right, so I’m basically fluent. (Jkjk) Sahil (one of the boys in this group) showed me his acrobatics. And I showed him mine. He was way talented. Doing cartwheels, front hand springs, and breakdancing head stands. I showed him my aerial, and he wanted me to teach him so bad. He was determined to be able to do it. We also did some splits challenges and he was surprisingly flexible.
  • Let me tell ya, im going to come back so muscley from this trip. You get quite a workout from throwing, spinning, and picking up those cute kids. My back and arms were shaking by the end of the day from always holding some kiddo.
  • Vikrant (sassy little boy from our school) brought his little sister to school today. Her name is babita, and she was quite exhausted by the end. She sat in my lap and laid her head on my shoulder I walked around with her half asleep for probably only 20 minutes until her little eyes closed and she was dead asleep. We had to leave the school so I had to set the poor girl down. I put her on her feet and she tipped back into me. Her eyes were so tired they were unable to stay open. I tipped her back up and she swayed until her brother held her still. It was the sweetest thing.
  • After teaching we did something I will probably only ever do once in my life. We went to an Indian wedding. It was elaborate and beautiful. With all different colors and jewels. it was definitely a sight to see. We were stared at by everyone. A small flock of teenage boys followed us everywhere we walked and tried to touch me as I turned away.
  • Next I had a cute little near death experience. (Just kidding mom) but I was trying to back up so a car could pass with a bus right behind me. I stepped onto a slant and fell so if the car hadn’t stopped it would have run my foot over.
  • In our free time me, Bentley, and grace spent all free time sassing each other. Coming up with stupid rhymes and raps to keep us occupied. I am happy all the time here. How can you be sad when 19 small children that love you. You constantly have all of them wanting all your attention, tricks, love, treats, and paper airplanes. And they say please and thank you in the cutest little accents you could ever hear. They are all I think about when I’m here, I just want to take them home with me.
  • In conclusion I didn’t proof read this so I hope I sound literate. Here is a jumble of all my thoughts:)
