Spiders Everywhere Victoria Brown

            It is crazy to think a little over a week ago we were all boarding the plane to start this adventure. We are over half way through our trip and I cannot believe how fast it has gone. While I have been here my least favorite thing in the entire world keep making a regular appearance- spiders. Spiders give me the creeps! They are gross, scary, and I just do not care for them. I even said in my YMAD interview that my biggest fear was spiders, so you could say I am pretty serious about this. I swear almost every time I go to the bathroom or look in the corner of a room I find some huge spider staring at me in India. I am not joking when I say they are everywhere. They are in classrooms, in our beds, coming up from toilets, and lets not forget our favorite place our duffle bags, but I have learned to get past the fact that I am going to see some gross bug almost every time I enter a room. I have been forced to face my fear. It is always there, waiting for me. This is exactly like the rest of our trip. It is can be scary going to another country half way across the world. You do not know what the food is going to be like and knowing you will be sleeping in some strange place. No matter what it is we all get past it.

            Today was very regarding my favorite creatures. To start the day off right I saw a spider in the bathroom. By India standards it was small, but I am telling you right now it was big. Then I saw one at the school in my village that I thought was going to eat me…but it was totally fine…I did not freak out at all. I guess you could say I was a little paranoid because during my village tour today I kept thinking that the flowers on my head were bugs. My whole team got a kick out of that. I have to admit flowers and spiders are two very different things. I am already freaked out and seeing five spiders at the boarding school today did not help me much. However, I continued on with my business and by the end of the day I did not even notice the spiders that people were freaking out about after dinner. Let’s not forget about the huge spider the boys caught in a box the other night. No worries the spider is in fact dead thanks to the boys. Crazy huh… after all that I just ignored the gross things.

During this trip we have all had to face something that we do not like or maybe something that is uncomfortable. The good thing about this is we have been able to get through this together. In the face of what might scare you; having someone there with you makes all the difference in the world. We have all gotten so close not only as a group but also with the children we teach because of this. We are all a team and we have not forgotten that. The long hours teaching, playing with the kids, and the long nights on the roof make it all worth it especially when you do all of it with people you care about. You might scream but, at least you have someone to scream with you.

   Tori! I’m so glad you are enjoying yourself with all those spiders! But I can tell you are having a wonderful experience. The pictures of you show such a happy girl. You look like you are glowing. We all love you and miss you so much! Even Mitchell misses you. He says so all the time.

   Way to go facing your fears. I am sooooo Sorry though. Spiders are not great like Charlotte in Charlotte’s Webb. Hang in there. See ya soon.
